The Interview Copilot Epidemic
Two dozen products built around one promise, that nobody will know
Search for an AI interview assistant in 2026 and most of the products you find promise that nobody will know you are using them. One vendor's comparison page lists 24 competitors, and their homepages make the same pitch.
I build AI for live professional conversations, so I read them closely. Everything quoted below comes from each company's own homepage or privacy policy, checked on October 9, 2026.

Count the stealth features
Most of the features on these pages are aimed at the interviewer. Several products use "undetectable" as their headline. Some hide their dock and tray icons, and two mask their process names so they are harder to spot in a list of running programs. Some list the coding-assessment platforms they say they get past, and two advertise a count of their evasion features: "20+."
What is under the hood
Where these companies name the model they use, it comes from another company. One lists five frontier model brands in a menu. Another names Microsoft Azure OpenAI in its privacy policy. Another lists four providers' flagship models by version number. The rest do not say.
Wrapping a rented model in a transparent window is a weekend project in 2026. The result is two dozen near-identical products that compete on stealth features and monthly price. This is a vibecoded category: the vendor builds the overlay, and a model provider supplies the answers.
Employers noticed
Business Insider reported that Amazon's internal guidelines let recruiters disqualify candidates who use AI tools during interviews, and singled out teleprompter-style tools that help in real time. Goldman Sachs has told candidates not to use AI tools in its interviews either. Google's CEO said the company would bring back at least one in-person interview round, in part because of AI-assisted cheating in remote hiring.
Remote hiring is getting harder for every candidate as a result, including those who never used one of these tools.
The real problem is borrowed competence
When a tool supplies answers the candidate does not know, the employer hires for skills the candidate does not have. The gap shows up once the work starts, and it costs the employer, the team, and the new hire.
What AI for conversations should do
AI for live conversations is useful when it helps someone say what they actually know, clearly, at the moment it matters. Advisory Guide is built for that, in the conversations professionals have every day: customer escalations, sales calls, client meetings.
- It answers from your material. The source is what you prepared: your notes, your product brief, your client history.
- It holds back when your material does not support a claim. The reply gets shorter. A large share of our training data teaches that behavior.
- It acts only when you ask. Nothing appears until you press Suggest.
- It is phrased for speaking. Short sentences you can say out loud without tripping.
Getting there took months of data science: an 8,000-example training set rebalanced against US Bureau of Labor Statistics employment data so it reflects the jobs people actually hold, a second dataset of 1,853 sequences aimed at specific failure modes such as false premises and invented specifics, and a frozen, checksummed evaluation set of 344 sequences. The details are in Conversation Engineering. The infrastructure that serves it is in Holding Long Conversations in GPU Memory.
